Saumur Blanc – still fermenting.
(This item was previously on www.rsj.uk.com)
The first white wine to be made by the Mabileau family for exactly sixty years was bottled by Frédéric on 5th June 2008. Until 1947 the Mabileau’s made white wine from Chenin Blanc planted in the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil vineyards. This was the year that Frédéric’s grandfather, Armand, took over from his father. Frédéric’s new baby is a Saumur Blanc 2007 from Chenin planted at Le Puy-Notre-Dame.
Although we haven’t yet tried the finished article, we have tasted the new wine on several occasions and been so impressed that we have already placed an order. Our modest allocation will arrive in the early autumn.
For further details visit: www.fredericmabileau.com/news.htm. Don’t miss the two new videos – one of father and son, the other grandson and grandfather. Unfortunately the video from September 2007 of Frédéric scoffing many of the white grapes is no longer on the site.
