2010 was a very special year for us as the RSJ Restaurant celebrated its 30th year. We held a number of special events through the year to mark our 30th birthday.

Events at RSJ Restaurant – Autumn 2013

Château de Saumur


Wine Tasting with Dinner (3 courses) Start at 7.15pm
Monday 16th September:     ‘Scintillating Saumur’  £49.50
We will be looking at both red and white wines from the beautiful Saumur region and tasting wines from such luminaries as Régis Neau, former French Wine maker of the year Thierry Germain and Jean-Pierre Chevallier. We will look at various different vintages including ‘Les Châtains’ (Saumur-Champigny) from the great year of 1989.
Monday 14th October:  ‘Cellar Raid’ £49.50
The archives of the RSJ Cellars are always of great interest and we shall be tasting some fascinating older bottles from our celebrated Loire vignerons including  Claude Papin’s 1997 Savennières Clos de Coulaine, Cotat’s
1988 Sancerre in magnum and Victor Lebreton’s 1990 Coteaux de L’Aubance.

Monday 11th November: Jérôme Billard – Chinon’ £49.50

We are delighted that one of the top young wine makers in the Loire, Jérôme Billard is coming to present his wines at RSJ. Jérôme trained at Château Pétrus and Dominus in California before returning home to the family vineyards in Chinon where he is making outstanding wine. He works organically and his wines have been very well received by our clientele since we started importing from him.

 speaks excellent English and this is sure to be a fascinating evening.

We have put together a mixed case featuring 4 different styles of Loire Sauvignon from 4 of our favourite growers – all ideal for drinking this Summer and beyond!

3 bottles 2012 Touraine ‘Le Clos’  Domaine Roussely, Vincent Roussely
Vincent is a dynamic young vigneron based at Angé in Touraine. He did part of his training in the New World and came back to take over family vineyards and works organically. This wine has a lovely freshness and ripe rounded fruit. His wines have been hugely popular since we started importing from him 3 years ago.

3 bottles 2012 Sauvignon, Domaine de Bablut, Christophe Daviau
Christophe was one of the first vignerons in the Loire to work organically and he has since started working biodynamically. Christophe also had a spell working in Australia in the 1990’s. This Sauvignon has a lovely refined elegance.

3 bottles 2012  Sancerre ‘Les Pierris’, Roger Champault et Fils
Roger’s sons, Laurent & Claude, have taken over the running of this family property at Champtin in Sancerre and have scaled new heights with this delicious wine full of ripe fruit and a lovely balance.

3 bottles 2012 Pouilly Fumé, Domaine Treuillet, Sebastien Treuillet
Sebastien has only a few hectares of vines but is rapidly establishing himself as a real star in this famous appellation and this wine has picked up numerous awards and commendations at wine fairs and tastings this year.This wine has a lovely clearcut minerality and is beautifully balanced.

Lovely fruit and superb balance are the hallmark

of Yves Guegniard’s wines and this is drinking beautifully.

Outstanding organically grown Chinon from top young

vigneron, Jerome Billard, it is packed with ripe fruit.

It has an attractive nose of violets and a lovely balance.

Vincent Roussely’s fabulous ‘natural’ wine is a blend of Gamay

and Cabernet Franc. Lovely ripe fruit and beautifully balanced.

2011 La Croix de Mission , Anjou Villages Brissac £13.35  £12.35

Jean-Yves Lebreton & his son, Jean-Hubert, have made

another outstanding wine in 2011 from their famous vineyard.

This is 90% cabernet Sauvignon and 10% cabernet Franc



2011 Sancerre Rouge, ‘Les Pierris’  £13.35 £12.35

Made from 100% Pinot Noir, this is an elegant

attractive and stylish wine from the Champault brothers.
